Rooted in Spiritual Identity: Helping Children Know Who They Are in Christ

Spiritual formation doesn’t begin with memorizing facts about God, it begins with knowing, deep in your bones, that you are loved by Him.

In a Christian Montessori Community, children experience this truth daily through gentle rhythms of prayer, song, and community care. One of the most meaningful moments each morning is the Good Morning Song, where each child’s name is sung aloud and celebrated.

This simple practice affirms something profound: You are seen. You belong. You matter, to God and to us.

Children are introduced to generous living through words, thoughts, time, attention, influence, belongings, and money. These values are not abstract, they are modeled by older students and lived out in daily interactions. Faith becomes something children experience, not just learn about.

Worship songs fill the space. Gratitude is practiced. Conflicts become opportunities for forgiveness and restoration. Spiritual formation becomes the soil in which everything grows.

Parents may notice their child talking about God’s love, singing songs of worship, and expressing joy and confidence rooted in grace. This is the foundation of faith: I am loved.

This reflection is drawn from a larger writing project by Denise Marti, Formed for More: Why Christian Montessori Education Makes All The Difference, which explores Christian Montessori education and the role families play in forming children for a life of faith and purpose.
